Place
Place is most likely the easiest of the five themes to understand; a place is simply an area with distinguishable characterisics that differentiate it from other places. Being able to describe a place is very important in communicating with other people. Without that ability, no one would be able to describe to you what Mt. Rushmore looks like or how large Mt. Everest is, because that involves defining specific characteristics of an area.
Boarders Between Places
Place is described by the physical characteristics of an area. As such, this picture dipicts the boarder between two places. Because one area is forested, and one is not, they can be defined as two different places.
Place as a destination
Place can also be used to describe a destination, such as a city. This place, Panama City, can be defined in many different ways, such as Population, Area, Population density, ect..
